POLICY The policy of this organization is to provide guidelines to law enforcement employees to inform them of the types of extra duty employment that are appropriate, and to establish procedures to maintain accountability for the welfare of the organization and the employees. DEFINITIONS Extra-Duty Employment: Any employment that is conditioned on the actual or potential use of law enforcement powers by the police officers. Vendor: The vendor is referred to the person and or organization that the police officers is providing a paid service. 4. GENERAL DUTIES AND OBLIGATIONS Special events are important to local governments for many reasons, including the public enjoyment, a sense of community, and revenue for local businesses. Effective security and traffic control is a critical feature of these events. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is responsible for receiving, evaluating, recommending, and providing security and traffic services for all organized events within Trinidad and Tobago. Officers performing a paid extra-duty detail shall:  Report to the detail location on time. (E.g., assisting the vendor by performing errands or transportation in their private vehicle, except for so-called “bank runs,” or at other times when monies are customarily transported for safekeeping.)  Officers shall perform all necessary Police services including taking incident reports and the issuance of tickets for Traffic Offences for the duration of the extra duty contractual period.  With respect to arrest, injury, accident or incident reports, any police officer or official assigned to an extra-duty assignment is required to submit a written report concerning any such arrest, injury, accident or incident that occurs during the period that he is assigned to the extra-duty assignments. These reports shall be submitted no later than the completion of the extra-duty assignment, through the usual channels (i.e., the officer’s/official’s chain of command). Officers performing a paid extra-duty detail shall not:  Act as ushers, ticket takers or assist in the buying or selling of tickets of admission to any heater or dance.  When assigned to extra duty jobs at establishments serving alcoholic beverages, Police Officers shall not check I.D.'s (proof of age) at the door.
