Homelessness is a problem that affects people when they least expect it. Living without a home may seem like only one problem, but it leads to so much more including poverty, hunger, and unemployment. Steps need to be taken to eliminate homelessness or it will become worse than it already is. Homelessness is slowly increasing in the United States and is leading to a plethora of other problems. The rate of homelessness is 1,133 per 100,000 people and the number does not seem to be decreasing’(insert citation here from Jammison) . The first and most effective solution is to get permanent housing for the homeless. There are so many designs for small housing systems that take up little space. These designs provide shelter for the homeless, which are all at a reasonable pricing (insert citation here from Sisson). Permanent housing will decrease the rate of homelessness in general and is the prime solution. Another solution to solve homelessness is building more shelters and temporary housing systems will also help those who are on the streets. If even a few of these hotels are built around D.C, they can be used as temporary living spaces for hundreds of the homeless. They could live there for free for as long as they need and then figure out what to do from there. This plan is practical because homelessness is mostly short term so temporary housing is the best option. Lastly, getting kids an education will also help decrease homelessness. Education can help build a brighter future for kids to get out of the homeless state that they are in. Here in America, schooling is free, so anyone can get an education if they set their mind to it.
