In the novel Brave New World, it illustrates that in order for a utopian society to succeed a state of constancy, the undoing of Mother Nature must occur. Successfully engineering settings in humans creates a world where people are finally living "happily ever after," but a great sacrifice must occur. The novel, Brave New World is a political work because it changes the way people are made, it tries to create a perfect society, and controls the way humans act and think. The novel Brave New World can be considered a political work in the fact that this book is about a Central London Hatching and Conditioning Centre that is in charge of producing thousands of almost identical human embryos. The scientific embryos give it a political approach because the scientists that are creating “perfect” people for their “perfect” society are affecting human nature and political means “of or relating to the public affairs of a country” i.e. giving their world more of a robotic dictatorship. The government does its best to remove any painful emotion, taking away every feelings and desires. The author shows that the government knows the dangers of negative emotions when Mustapha, the controller, says, "Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the over-compensations for misery" (Huxley 199). The new world they are trying to create is forcing the people to have no emotions towards anything, that way it’s easier for them to have control over the people and eliminate conflict. In the book, a character that is feeling too emotional takes a dose of soma to clear themselves of those odd feelings. The people would take this drug either alone or when they had a minute of free time, shutting out their creativity. The individual is aware of being an individual and that’s when they would take it, putting the betterment of the society over themselves. "You've got to choose between happiness and what people used to call high art. We've sacrificed the high art" (Huxley 199). Even though the people of Brave New World appear happy and their environment is stable, they lack creativity since their life is mundane and dull. The controllers are taking away the truth and keeping happiness, because the people would rather be happier than face the truth about their situations. “Every work is part of the social problem” (Foster 114).
