Effective Gun control legislation is an illusion; until an adequate measure is afforded to remove some of the most dangerous firearms from our communities. For over half a century policy makers in the United States have been transfixed by the epidemic of gun violence. The debate has resulted in a number of programs aimed at curbing gun crimes. Historically none of these programs have proven effective in reducing gun violence on micro/municipal levels (Diiulio, 1996). In fact, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) strongly suggests that many municipalities have experienced exponential growth in gun violence despite intense enforcement and regulatory efforts (BJS, 2010).
