I have always had a deep interest in the justice system of our society. Researching career opportunities in law has not only aided my understanding of law, it has developed a greater fondness for the subject. As a result, I have obtained considerable interest towards the role of a barrister in the judicial system, and would wish to experience the role of one myself. Assisting others is what I see as the main asset in my professional career and being a barrister would allow me to stand up for my clients on the front lines of justice; in front of a judge and jury. I have an exceptional work ethic driven by my immense sense of discipline that I have generated from gruelling morning training sessions playing rugby, throughout winter. This has proven to be invaluable in multiple aspects as it has allowed me to appreciate the effectiveness of hard work, inspiring a great level of discipline and authority over myself as a student as well as an athlete. I have a strong work ethic and I simply find satisfaction in completing a tedious and drawn-out task. I know that to accomplish my goals I need to put in a lot of hard work, something I am not afraid to do. I spend a large portion of my time studying. As soon as I get home, I study until around 9 o'clock. I maintain a high level of study time so that, not only can I become accustom to the long hours that I will have to work when I become a lawyer, but also because my education is important to me. Playing rugby for both my school and my club has boosted my communication skills as it is a sport that encourages teamwork, something that is pivotal for success. This made it clear to me that almost every field requires communication between one party and another to be successful. I have also taken part in two online courses related to law on a website called FutureLearn. The first one is an 8 week course on eye-witness psychology and the factors an eye-witness has on an investigation. The second course is an 8 week course on Crime, Justice and Society. This delves into the different processes involved in punishing an offender and the different organisations related to this process. More interestingly, the methods of punishment and prosecution are evaluated, debating the effectiveness of the modern judicial system. While the knowledge I have obtained is limited, I have acquired more than the average applicant and thus I will be exceedingly competent at fulfilling my tasks during my work
