most of the things were new to me, for example the language, the weather and the culture. I noticed very early on in America, people are trained to be individualist. people in America are trained to be their own I mean to be independent. Also, parents teach their kids to be individualist at early ages. For example, when the author talks about women with her two kids and one of them asked if she could buy the juice for him, she asked her son how much money does he have left? The money he saved to buy the things, the child said I have this much and the mother told him that he bought some other stuff . her child doesn’t have enough change for the juice and she offers some tip by saying next time save for it. In America, there are some parents who tell their children to move out after they become adult that if they want to have privacy. Children are train to be more independent and he is ready to move out so he can have more independent. This is good because the kids learn on an early age on how to be more responsible. Unlike, Somali Values and Assumption which is bit different. In Somalia parents don’t start teaching their kids at early ages to be more responsible in terms of how to save money and spend their time wisely. Somali parents will have the decision on who their kids marry when they grow up. when parents say they don’t want their kids to marry to certain person they listen. Back in Somalia, there are more grown up kids that will still live with their parent and don’t want to take their own responsibilities. Even if they marry some of them will still live with parents and share the same
