The United States has entered a state of turmoil regarding the economic issues diffusing throughout the country. Many public schools are victims of this epidemic and are at a tipping point as they are forced to cope with endless budget cuts. Schools involuntarily have to cut programs that are important to many students and parents. The benefits of budget cuts are few and far between; they do force schools to take a more analytical standpoint on their processes and operations, and give them an opportunity to reevaluate their budget to make more affordable and environmentally friendly changes. The absence of janitorial services means that student functions would not need to be eliminated. Several school districts across the country are sacrificing education to meet the needs of budget cuts by moving to four day school weeks. Others are canceling educational field trips, which are incomparable journeys that immerse students in what they are learning and keep them interested. Some are either charging students to play sports, or cutting them out all together. Sports, however, create a sense of unity, belonging, and value for a student that feels otherwise inferior in other school operations. Sports also give students the chance to get the exercise they need to stay healthy, not to mention a feeling of school spirit. Other schools, still, are eliminating or charging parents for the busing system. Some parents can't afford the cost of their child's transportation in this way, and in effect many are left unable to get to school or are stuck walking long distances in less than ideal weather. When schools have to cut out drama, music, and art programs, they are also cutting back on a students right to an enjoyable creative outlet. All of these areas that schools have been cutting out are not simply disposable. It hurts a student's education, interest, imagination, and overall well-being when budget cuts are dealt with like so. No longer would students be able to expect every mess they make to be taken care of for them, and they would have to clean up after themselves if they want to continue their education at a clean and tidy school. This new job would increase students' respect for those who have to clean up after them at home and also prepare them for a world where they have to fend for themselves. Cleaning up after students in classrooms, of course, isn't the only job that a custodian has. Custodians also stock bathrooms and classrooms, and do outside work at the school. This again, would put more pressure on students and teachers to do their part in taking care of their school, teaching responsibility and
