In the play a Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, there are five love relationships. These relationships include Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, Theseus and Hippolyta, Oberon and Titania, and Pyramus and Thisbe. Lysander and Hermia are two of the four young lovers whose love is never accepted by Hermia's father. Demetrius and Helena are also two of the four young lovers. Demetruis and Helena's love came to be as the result of the magic spell. Theseus is the Duke of Athens and won his love Hippolyta in battle. Oberon and Titania are king and queen of the fairies. Demetruis and Helena are also two of the four young lovers. Demetrius courted with Helena and she fell in love with him but Demetruis later switched his devotion to Hermia leaving for Helena behind. Demetruis and Helena's bond of love is the weakest because their love is not true, their love is only the result of the magic love potion and because Demetruis has voiced his hatred for Helena many times during the play before the potion was administered. Demetruis and Helena's love is not true because they were never both in love with each other. Demetruis made Helena fall in love with him when he really loved Hermia. At the end of the play Demetrius is now in love with Helena but only as the result of a magic love potion. The love potion was put onto Demetrius’s eyes by the fairy king Oberon to solve the problems at hand. It can be seen that before the potion is administered Demetrius hates Helena because he voices his hatred for her many times has shown in the quote "For I am sick when I do look on thee."
