The Missouri Compromise of 1820 is known as very important compromise in American History. The compromise played a significantly important role in the North and South in the time prior to the Civil war. The compromise subsequently lead to Missouri becoming a slave state, and Maine developing into a free state. Thus making the number of slave states to the number of free states eventually become equal.
