Video games have been around since the late 1950s and have been getting more popular every day. They were not as always as technologically advanced as they are today. Some of their very first games were on a computer and television. Games are currently played on game consoles such as Xbox, Playstation, Wii and the computer. There are even portable hand-held devices to play games on like a Nintendo DS, PSP, and more..Video games are being widely used by children, teenagers, and adults. Video games have raised some concerns, mostly from skeptics and the media. Some studies are suggesting that there may be a relationship with the use of violent video games and aggressive or antisocial behavior. People can get addicted like they get addicted to gambling or like they do drugs. Video games share similar addictive traits (Festl). The most addicting type of video game genre are massive multiplayer online role-playing games, also known as MMORPGs (Annissimov). They are addicting because they give players a chance to advance in game levels whether it be solo or in an online setting with other virtual people. It is arguable that there is no ending to this game. Other qualities make the game addictive are the high scores that are constantly trying to be beaten, or the actual objective to the game or to actually beat the game, exploration and discover that comes with role-playing games, and the relationships people build with their online community of gamers (Annissimov). Do violent video games lead to real violence? Columbine High School shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were video game players. On the day of April 20, 1999, they were planning on using knives, guns, and bombs (Rosenberg 1). These two seniors walked into their high school with assault rifles and killed dozens of students and one teacher with another 21 injured. School shootings have happened before, and there have been dozens of copycats throughout the years. The shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, had spent a lot of time playing video games
