Is vaccination an issue of freedom in the United States? Born as a healthy baby on August 30, 1994 Michelle Cedillo received the normal course of all required vaccines. All went fine until she got Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine at the age of fifteen months. Within a week she developed a 105 degree along with rash. At the age of three Michelle was diagnosed with autism. By the age of fifteen she could not talk, walk without assistance and take care for herself. Michelle’s parents believed that her autism is an adverse even followed vaccination. In June 2007 Michelle’s parents along with other eight families made their cases to the Autism Omnibus claiming compensation for health disabilities due to childhood vaccinations. The controversy around MMR vaccine and the fact that it is associated with the autism originated in 1998 when the prestigious medical journal “The Lancet” published deceitful “research paper” by Andrew Wakefield who linked autism spectrum disorders with MMR vaccine. Although afterwards many scientists and scholars proved that MMR vaccine does not cause autism, the overall public trust in vaccination was greatly shaken. Andrew Wakefield’s hypothesis was taken seriously, and although several follow-up studies were conducted and none of them found a link between any vaccine and the likelihood of developing autism. In February 2009, the court ruled that Cedillos were not entitled to compensation because they could not prove that mercury-containing preservative in MMR vaccine and other thimerosal-containing vaccines can cause
