Reconstruction Period Reconstruction was a major success for African Americans. Reconstruction brought meaning to the freedom that former enslaved African Americans had achieved. After reconstruction all African Americans gained equal rights and where able to do more things than they could not do. All Americans had the opportunity to hold public office or in other word elected position. The amendments played a major role in the success of reconstruction. All three amendments were to ensure that there no more slavery, citizenship, and the right to vote. During the reconstruction there were many problems that needed to be solved. During reconstruction carpetbaggers were Northern who took advantage of the South and was resented by Southern.
