Abstract— In the present dynamically changing world, for an efficient and effective product development to take place, it is necessary to focus on product innovation for technology driven entrepreneurship. Product innovation in engineering college innovation labs helps in reducing the research investments on resources and human capital. The availability of large pool of divergent skilled students and faculty with the interest to innovate and resources to build and test the technically feasible prototype provides an ideal environment for innovation. The prototype can be further mentored in the technology business incubators to make them economically viable, socially acceptable and scalable product. This final minimum viable product could be…show more content…
LITERATURE REVIEW Entrepreneurship is becoming an important driver of growth, innovation and job creation [4]. Methodologically, creativity in entrepreneurship and innovation has been explained through cognitive processes, motivation, attitudes, existing knowledge, work environment and personality traits [4]. Engineering students appear to be very well suited to become entrepreneurs. In paper [5], authors have summarized data related to engineering students’ interest and involvement in entrepreneurship education, attitudes toward entrepreneurship as a career option, how this involvement relates to students' entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and the characteristics of students who participate in these courses and programs [5]. It is observed from this study that those who took one or more courses were found to have significantly higher entrepreneurial self-efficacy than those who did not. A. Factors that influence Entrepreneurship It is observed from the feedback from most of the engineering institutes that the percentage of graduates getting into entrepreneurship is relatively less, even though there is continuous support and assistance from the authorized and supporting bodies [5]. It is necessary to figure out and address the factors which result in poor exposure to entrepreneurship among engineering graduates. This in turn leads to identify the positive factors that can be used to motivate and create entrepreneurial interest among the engineering…show more content…
Need for Innovation Lab in a College. Laboratory innovations render practical work interesting and challenging for both the teacher and the taught. Innovations in the laboratory enrich the quantity and quality of the experimental methods, as well as experiments. Generally, in engineering educational institutions, the same type of laboratory experiments (in which all the instructions are provided) are routinely carried out several times, whereby the students are not required to think and act independently. Innovations will go a long way in breaking this stereotype, and also fulfill key curricular requirements [9]. Laboratory innovations, if continuously planned and implemented, can result in the increased participation of students and teachers. By ushering in innovations in various areas to make laboratory work more effective, and supporting staff and teachers will find their efforts more rewarding, which will result in the continuous improvement of laboratory activities and experiments. Constant interaction with industry has revealed that the development of interpersonal skills and enhancement of teamwork, as well as positive attitudes, must be effectively taken up by engineering institutions.
