The Controversy Over Youth Sports

There has been a lot of controversy over youth sports. If you are not the athlete or the athlete's parents, you probably do not think youth sports are to intense because if you are the athlete, you like the sport and you want have intense workouts to succeed. If you are the parent, you want your child to succeed and if you wouldn't want your child to succeed, you would not be going to this intense of a level. "Young athletes who spend countless hours training at their sport learn the value of discipline and commitment" (Scholastic). I do not believe that youth sports are to intense because when they get to a high school level of sports, it's not going to seem like it's intense all of the sudden, if they start at age 3, they will already have learned the skills and basics so they will be ahead of everyone else, and if they start sports at around age 3, they will also be disciplined (if you have a "good" coach.) Discipline comes with sports and if they start that sport at a young age, the child will learn discipline. Good coaches teach discipline because if their team does not have discipline, once they go down, they will not be able to get back up. So if they have a good coach at a young age, they will be disciplined and a great team player. "Young athletes who spend countless hours training at their sport learn the value of discipline and commitment. There is simply no way other than tireless repetition to learn the skills necessary to succeed in competitive athletics. When an athlete performs well as a result of this kind of disciplined training, he or she develops genuine self-confidence" (Scholastic). Self confidence is also taught by a good coach because self confidence also leads to success. Self confidence is a big part of succeeding.
