For all of her life Celie had thought that God was a giant man in the sky with long white hair and beard dressed in a big white robe and that image ruined it for Celie. Then one day Shug and Celie were lying in bed talking about God and such and then Shug said something Celie will never forget, “Here’s the thing. The thing I believe. God is inside you and everybody else. You come into this world with God. But only them that search for it inside find it. The Color Purple. The actual color purple is created from combining the two colors blue and red. Blue is mostly related to sadness or depression, while on the other hand red can be associated with love or in the case of this book red is a color for bluntness. Many people believe the book is named after Celie the main character but in fact it is named after Shug Avery. Shug Avery is the complete definition of the color purple because in the beginning when she is sick she is bitter, cold, and extremely unfriendly towards Celie. Then later on when Shug becomes heathier she becomes very bold and what she says goes no matter what and she also begins to show love towards Celie and that is a huge up lift for her beaten and battered
