The Absolutely True diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie is about the life of Junior “Arnold” Spirit a 14 year old freshman in high school who lives in a poverty-stricken reservation in Washington named Spokane. Most of the people in the reservation abuse alcohol and drugs to hide their pain. However, Arnold is an extremely clever student at Wellpinit High school, but can’t reach his potential due to how deprived the reservation and school is of money and proper resources. Arnold was extremely fed up when he got the exact same textbook his mother got when she was in high school.
