From the perspective of a future school leader, do you support the initiatives of the committee in regards to teacher compensation? Why or why not? As I was reading the powerpoint from the Governor Deal's Education Reform Committee in regards to teacher compensation, I agree on some recommendations and some I do not. I agree on service cancellable loans because it will help with new teachers in the profession. The base pay for teachers are low so, if they want have to worry about a student loan to payback it would make it a win-win situation for teachers. Also, I agree it needs to be some type of commitment of time spent teaching. Full year practice for student teachers, definitely should be put into place. I like the terminology…show more content…
Protect the planning time: Our district does a good job in protecting our planning time. We only have meetings Tuesdays and Thursday. Sometime depending on what's happening administration will cancel meetings, like this week is nine weeks exams. Therefore, we are not having meetings. Teacher Evaluation: I think accountability. Observations makes people more responsible. Retirement: I have TRS for 10 years as a state employee and 9 year as a teacher. So, most of the recommendations I can see a lot of positive outcomes. How can student growth percentiles and/or TEM scores be fairly used for performance-based teacher compensation? Explain. I believe the only true way for student growth percentile and/or TEM scores to be fairly used is for teachers to rope-up with their students. The reason I say that is because you can truly measure growth because you will have the same students. With the same students you can measure accurate growth with them. If not, you will be comparing apples to oranges. Teachers teaching the same students should show proper growth unlike teachers being measured from year to year with different…show more content…
Does your school allow overtime pay for classified employees? If so, what are the guidelines? Our school district: Based on my conversation with our Assistant Principal of Academic (APA), our classified employees consist of all secretaries, bookkeeper/office manager, cafeteria workers, security, grounds men, and custodians. The APA said the guidelines are that if a classified employee works overtime, which is more than 40 hours in a week, they will get paid. But she said overtime normally has to be approved. They monitor the classified employees to make sure they don’t work pass 40 hours in a given week. Classified workers have to get paid time and a half if they work more than 40
