As name reflects, “The Story of an Hour” is a short story blended with many emotions that shows by characters; which develop entirely different mood among readers mind, the story is written by Kate Chopin. In this story, Chopin brilliantly uses many literacy elements, which makes the story emotional; the story begins with a sad emotion, and produce a grief mood. In story “The Story of an Hour” Kate Chopin said, “Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death” (Chopin1). By provide such miserable news; Chopin develops a sorrowful mood that helps to understand what a story is going to be about. Later in the story, the author generates satisfying emotion, when Mrs. Mallard realizes the advantages of being alone. For instances, the statement that “She said it over and over under her breath: "free, free, and free!" The vacant stare and the look of terror that had followed it went from her eyes. They stayed keen and bright. Her pulses beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body” (Chopin2) in “The Story of an Hour” reflected Mrs. Mallard gratifying feeling. With such complacent emotion the story completely turns its mood and Mrs. Mallard, the round and major character is the one who successfully change the mood of story.
