The Spanish conquest of the Caribbean and the Yucatan has greatly impacted the Mayans and the Tainos, which is remarkably noted in our history today. The main goal of the Spaniard during the Spanish conquest was to promote trades and to spread Christianity to the New World. Due to this goal, the Spanish wanted to explore other countries in search for a land that have not yet been discover by anyone so that they would be able to spread Christianity. As a result of the expedition, the Spanish wanted to colonize and take full control of the indigenous people in the Caribbean and Yucatan. In the first part of this essay I will first discuss the similarities and differences of the initial Spanish colonization of the Caribbean and the Yucatan. The second part of this essay is mainly focused on the treatment that the Franciscans had on the Mayans during the conquest and the impact that it had on the Mayan after the conquest. The third part of the essay will be focused on the cultural changes that the Mayan and the Spanish had due to the conquest. During the initial Spanish colonization there are several differences and similarities between the colonization of the Caribbean and Yucatan. The major similarities between the initial Spanish colonization of the Caribbean and the Yucatan happened during the arrival of the Spaniard. During the colonization of the Caribbean and Yucatan, the Tainos and the Mayan were captured and were send to Spain to be sold as slaves.
