What it Means to me to be a Servant Leader When you are a servant leader, you escalate to a higher place with expanded accountability, and gain greater knowledge for the future. Being a servant leader has been something that my parents, pastors, and teachers have all instilled inside of me in the course of my life. I desire to do the same and bring up children in the future that delight in being servant leaders. Becoming a servant leader can transpire in many different areas. Paving the way for others is something that our ancestors did for us. Furthermore, we need to keep accomplishing this for the future generations. A great quality a servant leader should have is being able to heal other peoples conflicts and result them in peace. They see this as a growing experience and know that once the conflict is resolved, you will have learned from the conflict itself. You have to be able to view situations from an outside perspective with no hostile views or hidden agendas. As a servant leader, you need to be enthusiastic about your day to day serving and every event you participate in, you must participate with a positive attitude. Authenticity is key for leading people, all for the right reasons. You are serving for no selfish gain, purely doing it for the happiness of someone else. Having virtuous qualities is something a servant leader must possess. Being kind, humble, caring, understanding, honest and loyal are just a small list of important qualities. Being responsible as a servant leader is more demanding then most people realize. Even when you may be persevering through hard situations, you realize that they cannot change the way you lead. You are leading other people, no matter what you are going through. My father was diagnosed with cancer twice in two years, and even with what felt like the weight of the world on my back, I had to keep my head up high and lead the people who were looking to me for support and guidance. With many cultures being represented at Oklahoma City University, we are able to serve in many different areas, as well as learning from people of other ethnicities along the way, making for a diverse school. We live in a generation that is one, if not the most resourceful generations that has ever lived. Servant leadership requires you to rise above imitations. It requires an individual to rise above the paradigm. Each person in the world has something different to offer, like a small piece to a critical puzzle. We achieve many things by finding unity between one another. In a generation where social media is rampant, ideas can spread in minutes, even seconds.
