President Barack Obamas’s Inauguration Speech There is little doubt that rhetoric is used by individuals of the political world and anyone linked to politics every where in the World. In our history, most presidents have used rhetoric to make their case and to address important issues when speaking to the nation. During president Obama’s journey that brought him to the White House, his speeches have contained many types of rhetoric and rhetorical devices. Throughout his inaugural speech, we can find many examples of methods that are commonly used is regards to rhetorical standards. While preserving his own credibility, the president tempted to the audience’s emotions and maintained logic in his points. Being that so many supports were present at his speech, the president was able to speak to a understanding and hospitable audience, which further increased the power of his words. Even though some political analysis expressed that the President’s speech failed to inspire the American people in many ways, the use of many aspects of rhetoric, constructed a complete, concise, and successful speech. When simply analyzing the invention of the speech, it becomes clear that all politicians brainstorm ideas together before consolidating the main points and preparing the final draft. He was able to persuade the audience to accept his claims by speaking in the present and identifying issues, such as the economy and wars, that needed to be addressed. By choosing to organize his ideas with a general theme that was expressed throughout the speech, the President made his communication more cohesive and easier to follow. He reached to the idea that was set by the founding fathers; “Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life.” “This is the journey we continue today.”
