Since the beginning of time, music has helped shape the way people live. Music has different meanings. Especially, when there are multiple different types. Two particularly influential African-American musical forms remain popular today are R&B and Rap. While both share common musical ancestors, they differ in a number of specific ways Understanding differences between R&B and rap can help illustrate the variety and difference of African-American music and the influence it has had on world culture. Both R&B and Rap come from the African American background. R&B has been considered “black music” since 1940’s by slaves in the south. Rap has been called the Anti-Christ in our culture since the 1980’s. Both have many influences on people’s lives.
