The Protestant Reformation is where reformers point out problems with the church, such as corruption, simony, and the sale of indulgences. The Reformation ended the unity imposed by Christianity and practically signaled the beginning of the modern era. The Reformation took place during the 16th century. A weakening of the old order was already starting because of the emergence of more cities and a thriving middle class.
