By Charli Hinton “Cyberbullying allows an aggressive attacker to publicly ridicule a victim and disseminate rumors quickly.” This was stated in the article, “Bullying and suicide”, by Gale, a Cengage Company. When cyberbullied there may be changes in sleeping patterns, feelings of sadness and loneliness, and loss of interest in activities. There also may be signs of depression and thoughts of suicide. Bullying is an enormous problem and it has been growing. In 1999, at Columbine High School, there was a mass shooting. This shooting was orchestrated by two students, who were being bullied. They felt threatened by their peers, so they took matters into their own hands. These two teens took the lives of twelve students and one teacher, with a number of injuries from the survivors. After doing so, the two teens then shot themselves. This is an example of what bullying and cyberbullying is capable of. Any type of bullying is dangerous and needs to be stopped. In today's world, there are so many computers and electronics. This gives cyberbullies ample opportunity to hurt others online. When posting online be sure to never hurt others. The problem with nowadays is that most people don't know when they are bullying online. Because online conversations are all in a text, it is easy for some to take something the wrong way. Always be cautious about what is being pasted because someone might take it offensively. There are many ways to prevent cyberbullying. Some include: activating the privacy settings on all devices, thinking before posting, logging out of all accounts and taking appropriate photos. In the article, “Effects of Cyberbullying”, by Gale, a Cengage Company, it states, “Taking less time online and interaction with others will eliminate some false conceptions that would have accrued online.” These simple ways to prevent cyberbullying are working to keep people
