Introduction The 21st century world is characterized by globalization and diversity. The demographics of not just workplaces but communities too have undergone massive change in the past few decades. The world today is characterized by multiplicity, heterogeneity and the presence of various cultures (ethnic, across-border or domestic). Succeeding in this ever- changing environment requires leaders to seek newer competencies that help them lead a more diverse workforce. (Rockstuhl et al, 2011). CQ has been found to be significant in dealing with cross-cultural setups like cross-cultural leadership in multicultural teams. Cultural intelligence is yet another non-academic individual intelligence level that researchers have found to be related to leadership styles and success (Alon & Higgins, 2005). Leaders use a variety of leadership styles to produce effective outcomes (Northouse, 2009). One way to measure these leadership styles is through The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) (Bass & Avolio, 2000). This questionnaire is classified according to four distinct leadership styles - transactional, transformational, contingent-reward, and laissez-faire. Leaders can have a direct influence on group norms and on the philosophical outlook of individuals (Owens, 2004). Individuals who have the capacity to blend leadership strategies with cultural capabilities create success within their organizations (Schuerholz-Lehr, 2007).
