As the attorney for Bainbridge Borough I support the company’s decision in rejecting Mrs. Fern’s request. After rejecting the request, the Council gave Carol an option to take two consecutive 90 day reasonable purpose leaves, which was within reason. The company expressed that maternity leave is generally for a mother’s full recovery from their pregnancy and to build a strong relationship with their newborn infant. According to the Family and Medical Leave Act, mothers are entitled to 12 work weeks of unpaid leave in a 12 month period, in which Carol is still short of her request and the Company offered her two reasonable purpose leave that covered that. Carol had already taken two weeks leave of paid vacation time off, that would also count
