Harper Lee is known for her writing, her famous novel To Kill A Mockingbird was a success. She loves and enjoys to write, her most recent book is Go Set A Watchman which was published on July 14, 2015. Go Set A Watchman is a sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird that it is said to take place twenty years after. Before writing, Harper Lee's life was different and she had to work hard to finally be an author. Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926 which means she is now 89 years old. Her full name is Nelle Harper Lee. She was born in Monroeville, Alabama and was the youngest of four children. She had two sisters and one brother. That is when she worked with an editor named Tay Hohoff on a manuscript that took place in a small town in Alabama that later turned out to be To Kill A Mockingbird. According to Harper Lee the writing process of To Kill A Mockingbird was slow and painful. She even said that at some point she got frustrated. Something that helped her was that real life events that were currently happening like the Rosa Parks event were helping her build the fictional world of Maycomb. On July 11, 1960 To Kill A Mockingbird was published by the JB Lippincott company. The book was instantly successful and a lot of people liked it so in 1961 Harper Lee was awarded the pulitzer prize which was a big deal for a first time writer. The book was so good that in December 25, 1962 it was made into an Academy Award winning film and has been the only film made of the book in black and white. This is important because the book To Kill A Mockingbird shows a court case and racism also. The Scottsboro Boys was basically a group of nine colored men that were falsely blamed for assaulting two white ladies on a train. This event compares to the book because Tom Robinson is a colored man who was accused of assaulting a young girl. Another sad event that happened was the death of Emmett Till on August 28, 1955 he was just a young 14 year old that was killed by a group of white men for flirting to a white woman, which again shows racism. Also on December 1, 1955 the well known event of Rosa Parks happened where she did not want to give up her bus seat to a white man and as a result she gets arrested. All these were events that inspired Harper Lee to write the book To Kill A
