Who was Leonardo da Vinci? Why is he such an important man? And why are his inventions so famous? Leonardo da Vinci is an extraordinary man who changed the world in many ways. Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452, in the middle of the renaissance in the heart of Europe. He was born on the edge of Vinci, which lies high up on Mount Albano. A quote from Elke Linda Buchholz, "A carefully restored farmhouse in Anchiano close to Vinci is said to be the birthplace of Leonardo". It's based near the city of Florence. Florence was an independent republic and commercial place at the time of his birth. He then relocated to Florence, Italy and then travelled to Milan to embark on his first professional endeavor as a sculptor and painter. (biography, n.d.)
