he Downfalls Of The Tragic Hero Macbeth In the tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare a great hero allows power to drive himself and his wife to their doom. In the play one of the main themes is power, which causes the majority of the deaths throughout this tragic journey. Lady Macbeth’s obsession with power ruins her life and marriage by driving her to influence Macbeth to kill King Duncan, turn on his best friend Banquo, kill Macduff’s family which in the end drives her insane and leads to the fall of Scotland. The first destructive step on Lady Macbeth’s ruthless journey to insanity was her irrational decision to assassinate King Duncan in their own castle. Thereafter Lady Macbeth dies and when Macbeth gets the news he says,”She should have died hereafter./There would have been a time for such a word./Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,/Creeps in this petty pace from day to day/To the last syllable of recorded time,/And all our yesterdays have lighted fools/The way to dusty death.
