Byrnes Family History Cole Byrnes The Byrnes family goes back a long ways. The Byrnes’ were native to Ireland. The Byrnes’ original name while in Ireland was O’Byrne. The O’Byrne’s were very powerful people while in Ireland. They owned many territories and had to much power for themselves. The O’Byrne Clan motto was certavi et vici which means ”I have fought and I conquered”. The O’Byrne Clan was very powerful and conquered many territories in while in Ireland. The biggest territory they had was Ui Faolain. The Byrness were originally chiefs of Ui Faolain, that territory which is now County Kildare; Until they were driven out in 1200, after the Norman Invasion of Ireland, and were forced to settle in county Wicklow. Morris Byrnes had his own construction business in Ireland. Morris Byrnes met his wife Catherine in Wicklow, Ireland and they moved to America to start their own family. They both were want to come to America before they had even met. Morris had a lot of family in Wisconsin and he want to live with them. Morris started another construction business in Wisconsin. His business involved a lot of traveling. Morris went to Massachusetts for about a year for his business work. After that he traveled to Iowa. The letters were written while Morris was not with his family. The letters and very basic and just tell about new information and what going on where they are at. Morris had a son named James A. Byrnes. James grew up and lived his entire life in Osage, Iowa. James always wanted to be a farmer. James started farming in the mid 1800’s. He had six kids and his fourth one is my great grandfather, Angelo Byrnes. Angelo Byrnes followed his his father's footsteps. He was a farmer his entire life in New Haven, Iowa. There he had my grandfather Dean Byrnes. My Grandfather Dean Byrnes Farmed and was a insurance agent in the mid 1900’s. Dean has a sale to sell all of his equipment and land in the late 1900’s. After that he was just an insurance agent. My dad Kevin Byrnes always wanted to farm ever since he was a little kid as well. My dad bought his own equipment and land and started farming. He is still farming today and I hope one day I will be able to keep the farming operation still going. They Byrnes family is spread out from Canada to Ireland and all the way to to Texas.
