Kurt Vonnegut’s “Harrison Bergeron” takes place in 2081 where the government has succeeded in making everyone equal by handicapping the above average. Hazel and George Bergeron sit together in their living room watching ballerinas perform on television. A news bulletin interrupts the program to announce that the son of George and Hazel, Harrison, has escaped prison. A picture of Harrison flashes on the screen depicting his many handicaps. Suddenly, Harrison is on camera and announces that he is now Emperor. He strips a ballerina of her handicaps and tells the band to play music.
