In the United States, during the 1950’s, hysteria rose due to the threat of communism to overtake the capitalist ideology. Joseph McCarthy, an Anti- communist senator of the United States wrote a famous speech named “Enemies From Within”, that made accusations of communist spies inside the United States government with no evidence . This event took place during the Mccarthyism era when Witch Hunt of communist began, The Mccarthyism challenging the communist ideology, Victims who were Blacklisted lost opportunities and liberties. With the rise of Joseph Mccarthy's into presidency, Witch Hunt for communist began after his speech because his accusation toward government members of being communist spies. He stated, “I have here in my hand a list of 205 . . . a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping policy in the State Department” (Enemies from Beneath). Furthermore, Mccarthy stated his accusation with no evidence, yet the people who were blacklisted were penalized for his accusations. For example, “ Blacklisted people barring them from career and job opportunities and restricting their civil liberties”(Red Scare”) .The victims accused suffered from lost of career and jobs because…show more content…
If the United States would have been overtaken by the Communist, Americans would not be living in the standards that we live today and would only behold a small amount of power over their lives and live with strict freedom. Eventually we would be living in the circumstances in which China and Cuba live with stricter laws and with less freedom over our daily lives. Even Though Mccarthy accused people of being communist with no evidence ,we need to consider the fact that he prevented the United States from becoming a communist country in particular with Witch
