American writer John Updike lived from 1932 to 2009 and is known for writing for the New Yorker, the “Rabbit” series, and many short stories including “A&P”. His writing brought attention to an everyday American’s thoughts and concerns and ideas on sexuality in society; his short story “A&P” embodies these ideas. The story takes place in an everyday setting of a real grocery store called the “A&P” in the 1961.
