Women's fashion in The Patriot differs from what women actually wore in 1776. In 1776 women wore bodices with a low neckline the sleeves of the bodice only go to the elbow. The skirt portion to the dress was about ankle length and pleated at the hips with excess fabric hanging down. Young girls wore dressed similar to the adult women but they had a high neckline. For women the everyday wear was very modest unlike the formal wear the casual dresses covered the chest and was worn with a shawl and an apron. This contrasts with Aunt Charlotte in the movie her attire consists of formal wear only.
