Out of the vast different culturally and geographically built empires, one of the most important civilizations are the Incas. The empire was founded in around 1200 CE in the Cuzco Valley, and was in its glory years from 1450 to 1532. The first king, Manco Capac began the magnificent civilization by conquering the Cuzco Valley and from there it grew, spreading along most of the Andes Mountains. Through the difficulties in the size and geographical that set up the Incan empire, they were able to persevere and create advantages to create a successful civilization. Cuzco was founded by Manco Capac, first king of the Incas. For many years Manco and his family traveled around South America to find the perfect city. However, the word perfect is no description of the mountainous high elevated city in a valley in the Andes. Years later after “reaching the Cuzco valley the Inca drove a golden staff, which was the sign that this would be the place of their permanent settlement” (Salisbury). Manco organized Cuzco into sections by using a grid and radial pattern, in which the two sections were the agricultural and center zones. Rulers and skilled workers had to make sure that roads were either symmetrical to each other using ninety degree angles (grid) or focused around a certain middle point (radial).The central sector in the empire included the royal family and numerous important buildings such as, storehouses and residences for Incan kings. The center zone of Cuzco was made for the important figures in the Inca civilization, but it also had a lot of religion focused in the city including many sacred shrines and temples for the citizens. Then, in the outskirts of Cuzco there was the agriculture zone where many crops were grown for food supplies. “This area no doubt also separated the Inca nobility from lower-status groups living farther out from the center of town” (Salisbury). Even though most of this part of Cuzco was made up of peasants it was very important to the overall growth of the city.
