Honduras is a country in Central America bordering the Caribbean Sea, between Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. The climate is subtropical in lowlands, temperate in mountains. Natural resources from Honduras is timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, antimony, coal, fish, and hydropower. Environment issues in Honduras is the urban population expanding: causing deforestation. Deforestation is also by logging and clearing land for agricultural uses. Mining activities pollute the Lago de Yojoa (the largest fresh water source in the country), as well as many rivers with heavy metals. Guatemala is to the west, El Salvador to the south, and Nicaragua is to the east. Honduras is slightly larger than Tennessee. Generally it is mountainous, the country is made from many fertile plateaus, river valleys, and coastal plains. Honduras has a short costal line on the Pacific coast, but a long shoreline on the Caribbean. Honduras total area is 112,090 sq km, with land at 111,890 sq km and water at 200 sq km. The terrain is mostly mountains in interior and narrow coastal plains. The coastline is 820 km. The land used for growing crops is 9.55%, the land use for permanent crops is 3.22%, and the other is 87.23% since 2001. Honduras controls many islands in its offshore territory. In the Caribbean Sea, Honduras controls the islands of Roatán, Guanaja, and Utila to form the Bay Islands, one of the eighteen divisions that Honduras controls. Roatán is the largest of the three islands, it is 31.1 miles long by 3.1 miles wide. The Bay Islands has a number of smaller islands in its area, among those is Morat, Barbareta, and Santa Elena. Out further in the Caribbean are the Islas Santanillas, also known as the Swan Islands. It has a number of small islands and keys that can be found nearby, among them is Cayos Zapotillos and Cayos
