The novel ‘Of Mice and Men” takes place during the Great Depression, and it centers between two migrant farm workers George Milton and Lennie Small. The novel starts out when they are both walking beside the Salinas River close to Soledad, California. They are on their way to a nearby ranch where they have been hired as laborers. George and Lennie are unusual because they stick together while most migrant farmers don’t and also because they are so different from one another; Lennie is a massive, strong man with a mental disability that makes him think and act like a child. While on the other hand, George is a short and clever man that takes care of Lennie, because Lennie completely depends on him for guidance and protection. While at the river, George finds out that Lennie was playing with a dead mouse and scolds him. Lennie remembers a woman who gave him mice to pet but stopped when he kept killing them by accident this is because Lennie doesn’t know his own strength and does not control it. The woman that Lennie remembered was his aunt Clara, a woman who took care of George and Lennie when they were little. George complains to Lennie that his life would be so easy for him if he didn’t have to take care of Lennie and how he wouldn’t have to worry about Lennie getting in trouble like he did at the last farm. Lennie said that he liked they way a red dress looked on a woman and he liked it so much that he wanted to touch it but when he touched the dress, the woman screamed.
