Do you believe that your life was planned out for you, that it is controlled by some otherworldly being? Throughout history many people have believed that their lives have been controlled by the beings in the heavens. Napoleon Bonaparte was quoted as saying “There is no such thing as an accident, it is fate misnamed”. This feeling of fate permeates The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, if one action changed the whole play’s outcome would be drastically different. While reading this play we get the sense that everything was meant to happen and that the young lovers were destined to be together. When Friar Laurence says in act two scene six lines nine to ten “These violent delights have violent ends/And in their triumph die like fire and powder”. In these lines Friar Laurence is saying that since Romeo and Juliet fell so deeply in love at first sight and did know each other very well their relationship was fast paced, even saying “I love you” to each other within a few hours after they meet . He is also saying since Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is so passionate and dramatic it will end in fiery and fervent way. Friar Laurence’s prediction becomes true with Romeo and Juliet committing suicide rather than being without each other staying true to the melodramatic nature of their relationship Juliet says in scene 3 act 5 lines 53-56 O God, I have an ill-divining soul./Methinks I see thee now,thou art so low/As one in the bottom of a tomb/Either my eyesight fails or thou look’st pale. In these lines Juliet has a prediction that the next time she will see Romeo he will be dead. Juliet curses her soul for having such a horrible prediction. Due to their families feud Romeo and Juliet have to see each other without their families knowing. The young lovers wish they were someone else like in a line in the famous balcony scene in which Juliet says Act:2 Scene:2 Lines:33-34 “O Romeo, Romeo!Wherefore art thou Romeo/Deny thy father and refuse thy name. In these lines Juliet is wishing that Romeo wasn’t a Montague so they could be together. Juliet is also wondering why the person she fell in love with had to be Romeo. Romeo and Juliet’s families have an immense hate between them.Textual evidence of this is loathing is when Lady Capulet says (III.V.88-91) “...I’ll send one in Mantua/Where that banished runagate doth live,/Shall give him such an unaccustomed dram/That he shall soon keep Tybalt company.” In these lines Lady Capulet is plotting to give Romeo some poison for for the murder of her kinsman Tybalt. These lines show us although Lady Capulet seems to be a harmless character she can also be quite diabolical and
