There is definitive philosophy in the film The Avengers, due to the existence of certain philosophical issues within the plot. Examples include the moral dilemma of the character Bruce Banner, the ethical predicament of the character Clint Barton, and the existence of a higher power within the realm of Asgard. These examples prove that there are philosophical elements to the storyline of the movie The Avengers. An example of a philosophy in the movie The Avengers is the storyline of Bruce Banner and his altruistic tendencies.Throughout the film, and the preceding Hulk movies, we watch as Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk, struggle with the morality of his actions. Banner, a brilliant physicist, becomes a monster with superhuman strength when enraged, due to excessive gamma radiation exposure. Consequently, when he is in this beast-like state, he becomes unaware of his actions, and often causes mass destruction without realizing it. When he transforms back to his human state, he becomes overwhelmed with guilt. In the events of The Avengers, we learn that he attempted suicide…show more content…
In the movie, the main villain, Loki Laufeyson, hails from the realm of Asgard, a fictional place based off of Norse mythology. Asgard is proof of the existence of theism, due to the fact that it is currently ruled by one god, Odin. Odin is a totalitarian, and expects total obedience from his people, including his sons: his adoptive son Loki, and his biological son Thor. In the events of the Avengers, Loki travels to Earth (also known as Midgard) and schemes to rule the world, but is foiled by the Avengers, a team of superheroes, including Thor. Subsequently, Loki is captured by the Avengers, and sent back to Asgard to be tried for his crimes under Asgardian laws, which once again shows the prominence of theism.
