Oxygen transfer rate: Oxygen transfer rate from air to the liquid phase in bioreactors with aerobic cultures fermentation has long been a serious damage to the productivity of various bioprocesses. An increase of the oxygen transfer rate (OTR) can be used as basic to overcome oxygen limitation. Higher air pressure on OTR was measured and a significantly enhanced OTR could be obtained. The volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficient (KLa) is described as a function of the air pressure in a stirred lab-scale bioreactor. The correlation formed proved that KLa slightly decreased with higher air pressure. Gassing-out techniques: Further divide into three types, explained as below: a) The Static Method of Gassing out: This technique was first explained by Wise in 1951; the concentration of oxygen in the solution is reduced by passing nitrogen gas into the liquid, in this way all the oxygen will be removed from the solution. So, these techniques has the advantage over the sulphite oxidation method in that way, it is very fast normally taking up to 15 minutes and utilize the fermentation medium. b) The Dynamic Method of Gassing out: In this method the steps involve stopped the supply of air to the fermentation which results in a linear decline or decrease occur in the dissolved oxygen concentration due to the respiration of the fermentation culture. In this method aeration and agitation of deoxygenated liquid increase the concentration of dissolved oxygen which is monitored by using some form of dissolved oxygen probe.
