Donald Henry Gaskins did not have an easy childhood. He had all the makings of a serial killer. He was born to an unwed mother on March 13, 1933 in South Carolina. His mother had many boyfriends and husbands coming in and out of his life. A few of the boyfriends and stepdads beat Donald while his mother did nothing to stop them. He was given nicknames “Pee Wee” and “Junior Parrott” because of his small body. His violence first showed up in school. He was always getting into fights and at age 12 dropped out of school to work on cars at a local garage. This is when his crimes began. At the garage, he met two other boys his age. He rapes a 12-year-old girl shortly after. Gaskins is sent back to prison, but does not do much time and is released again. In 1969, he randomly tortures, disembowels, and murders a female hitchhiker. By this time, he decides he likes the act of killing. When he moves to California in October of 1970, more killings begin. Donald Gaskins estimates about ten kills along the coast of strangers and acquaintances, both men and women. Just one month later, he rapes and kills his niece and girlfriend. His kills continue while only having small brush ups with the law. At this time Donald is cornered, the only way he can avoid the electric chair is by giving up the location of bodies and he does. He is then charged with the rape- slaying of a 23-year-old women, who is 8 months pregnant. He also raped her 20-month-old daughter. In his final interview, he describes this as “the best sexual experience of his life”. Again, Gaskins avoids the chair by giving up the location of seven more bodies. In prison, he accepted a contract to kill Randolph Tyler. He does this by wiring explosives to his radio. This time he is sentenced to die with no way
