The heart is one of the most important organs in the human body, constantly providing
blood to our body through our blood vessels. The heart is located on the left side of the chest,
protected by the rib cage. Even though the heart is only the size of a fist, each minute our hearts
pump 1.5 gallons of blood into our bodies. If all of our blood vessels were stretched out, they
would extend for 60,000 miles.
The heart is made up of four chambers: the left atrium, the right atrium, the left ventricle
and the right ventricle. Two different types of blood travels through the heart, oxygenated blood
which is commonly seen as the red coming through the heart and deoxygenated blood which is
