Brock Grueter History 101 Hurlburt The Dome of the Rock & Ark of the Covenant The Ark of the Covenant is thought to have been held in the Dome of the Rock, according to English archeological architect Leen Ritmeyer. The Ark of the Covenant is a chest that once held the stone tablets that the 10 commandments were written on. The 10 commandments were a very important set of ethical laws that both Christians and Jews followed when they were written and still do to this date. The Dome of the Rock is a sacred Shrine in the old city of Jerusalem. This site was particularly important to multiple different religions, including Jewish, Christians, and Muslims. It was actually the site for many different religious temples such as Solomon's Temple, which was destroyed in 586 BC by the Babylonians. Followed by a temple build over the remains of Solomon’s Temple, which was expanded by Herod the Great, that was destroyed in 70 AD. (Los Angeles Times, Architect Claims He Has Pieced Together Old Biblical Puzzle) Because there were multiple different religious places build in the same area shows that the Dome of the Rock was thought to be a particularly religious and sacred area for many years before the Ark of the Covenant could have even been placed there. However, it has not been 100% proven that all of these were in the same place. This find that the 10 commandments could have possibly been stored in the Dome of the rock is quite a significant finding. Although it may not mean a lot to the average person who has no idea about the history behind the Dome of the Rock. Many of those who do study find interest in religious history, such as the Ark of the Covenant, could really find this fascinating. This new find of where the 10 commandment were stored can really have an impact on how we look at the past history of religions and who all actually would praise at the dome of the rock, and what was possibly there before the Dome of the Rock was
