Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. How many of these children will die from being abused and at what age will this occur the most? More than five children die every day and approximately 80% of children that are fatalities are under 4 years old. Amongst the survivors there other areas to ponder. This could be how many of these abused children suffer from psychological disorders or become abusers themselves? About 80% of 21 year olds meet the criteria for at least one psychological disorder. The first being a “disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states, which may be described in some cultures as an experience of possession. The disruption in identity involves marked discontinuity in sense of self and sense of agency, accompa¬nied by related alterations in affect, behavior, consciousness, memory, perception, cognition, and/or sensory-motor functioning. These signs and symptoms may be ob¬served by others or reported by the individual. The second criteria are the “recurrent gaps between the recall of everyday events, important personal information, and/or traumatic events that are inconsistent with ordinary forgetting. Then, the symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupa¬tional, or other important areas of functioning. Followed by, the disturbance is not a normal part of a broadly accepted cultural or religious practice.
