Compassion In Health And Social Care Essay

In this assignment I am going to be looking at health and social care users’ experiences in health and social care practices and examine if respect, dignity and compassion are being used in health and social care environments. For any Health and Social Care worker to be successful, respect, dignity and compassion need to be shown throughout any health and social care workers career. Without these three essential things, health and social care workers do not deserve to call themselves successful, nor professional. Lack of respect for patients dehumanises them and may contribute to abuse and ill treatment during their treatment in a health and social care practise. Evidence of health and social care professionals having a lack of respect for individuals in a health and social care practise is the incident that occurred in the ‘Rush Hall Care Home in Limavady, Co. Londonderry’ where an employee ‘ill treated a female patient who at the same time was receiving treatment for a mental disorder’. Nursing in practise mentions in an article that in ‘one out of six care homes, managers and employees do not use door or screens and use inappropriate language when providing professional care for their patients’. This statement shows that these health and social care employees have a lack of dignity for their patients which can be very uncomfortable for the patient and can greatly affect their treatment.
