1. I feel that community policing is still a major part in today’s society. There are a lot of organizations with a police force that have really tried to give back to the community as well as be part of the community. IMPD tries to make connections with the youth by donations and making appearances at social events. Police are trying to give themselves a very professional look which is a major part of the community policing. While foot patrol is not as heavy I know that even on some of the ride alongs that I have been on at a couple times in the day we would walk around and check out the community. I think that there needs to be a middle ground between community partnership and public safety. I feel like they kind of go hand in hand. If you…show more content…
The Kansas City study was a study that was conducted by increasing the amount of patrol officers to see if the greater presence of police had an effect on the community and on crime. The major value of this study shows that even with having more marked police cars around that does not mean that there is going to be less crime and that there are going to be more people that feel safe. The department instead of having so many marked cars they could implement foot patrol to see if that would cut down on some of the crime as well as make people have a better view of the police. General patrol is just the patrol in which officer are meant to keep their presence known by making their rounds thru out the area in which they are assigned. Direct patrol is patrol that is used based off of statistics, this patrol is used during peak hours of crime or in area that are more high risk. Differential response is more so the idea that officers are told there is a call and they respond to it when they become available. It makes it easier on the officer because the calls that are more urgent can be taken care of or place higher up on the priority list compared to low risk events. I could see why some people think patrol is dangerous in the sense that you never know what you are going to face. You could be dealing with a regular upset person or a gunman. A situation can go from good too bad in the blink of an eye. I could also see why it would be boring to some if they patrol a small town where nothing really happens and they never get to really help out. This could just lead to boredom due to the fact that the officer never gets to leave their patrol car. 6. I feel that it is a perk of the job because all officers share a special bond with each other so they are always looking out for each other. I do not think it’s really fair because if you are breaking the law and/or putting someone else’s life in danger you should be held accountable for that no matter who you are professionally. I don’t feel that it is air because if something was to happen to someone else
