The Effect of Climate Change on the Golden Toad Introduction Throughout history the Earth’s climate continually cooled and warmed with weather regimes changing. This natural process is being enhanced through human activities that are increasing the warming of the atmosphere at a more rapid rate than previously seen. Among the many threats to biodiversity; the destruction of habitats, population growth, pollution, invasive species and overexploitation, climate change is having an adverse effect on biodiversity. The link between biodiversity and climate change has been established for quite some time now. Ecosystems are already showing negative impacts under current levels of climate change. This essay will argue that climate change is a huge…show more content…
Weather is made up of short-term changes in atmospheric variables such as temperature, precipitation, wind, and barometric pressure in a given area over a period of hours or days (Miller & Spoolman, 2011:482). Whereas climate is typical weather conditions of a particular area, especially temperature and precipitation, over a long-term period of time reaching from decades and centuries to thousands of years. (Miller & Spoolman, 2011:482). Climate Change Climate change is the change of climate over a long-term period of at least thirty years. Over the past 3 billion years the earth’s climate has been reformed by a number of factors (Miller and Spoolman, 2011:483). The world’s climate is also affected by air motion patterns. Global change is more of a natural phenomenon rather than it being influenced by humans. The Rapidly Changing the Climate Greenhouse…show more content…
According to Araújo & Rahbek (2006:7) the air, water and land of our planet are all linked to its atmosphere through the exchange of gases. Climate explains weather conditions over an entire region. Climate change is a modification or alteration in the climate due radiation trapped in the o-zone layer. On the other hand according to Miller & Spoolman (2012:79) biodiversity is the variety of the earth’s species, the genes they contain, and the ecosystems in which they live and the ecosystems processes of energy flow and nutrient cycling that sustain that
