Chemical Dependency Skills

176 Words1 Page
I interviewed a man staying in the Chemical Dependence unit this week, and I was able to learn a lot of information about his past. He was very open and engaging with me. I am starting to feel much more comfortable talking to clients about difficult or painful topics. Though, some of these client’s stories have left me feeling kind of traumatized. Sometimes I will leave clinical feeling incredibly sad for the clients there, I will sometimes worry about them, or feel angry with the people who have wronged them. That anger comes out particularly when I hear about children who have been abandoned or abused by the people meant to love and protect them. I am not sure if I am over-identifying with the clients or if I am just empathizing with them
