1. Introduction An important aspect of the criminal investigation is the documentation or recording of evidence or the chain of custody. According to [1], a chain of custody is a procedure for chronologically documenting evidence. Meanwhile, according to [2], a chain of custody is an important part of the investigation process which will guarantee the evidence is acceptable in the court. In this case, the chain of custody will document the evidence in investigation process with all aspect of information about where, when, why, who, how. Among other things is done by [1] through UML approach, then [26] through ontology approach, as well [17] and [23] through semantic and RDF approach. On the other hand, some researchers also agree that the information in the chain of custody must contain 5W and 1 H components [1] [22] [23] [27]. But when discussed in depth, the meaning and application of 5W and 1 H on digital evidence and chain of custody among researchers are different from each other. Some have suggested that the 5W and 1 H aspects must always exist in every stage of forensic activity and its interaction with digital evidence, but there is also meaning that the aspect is sufficient to describe the initial process when obtaining digital evidence. In the context of recording interactions with digital evidence, the meaning of 5W and 1 H is more appropriate to describe information about the process of obtaining such digital evidence as well as possible changes to the digital…show more content…
Files obtained from the acquisition and imaging of digital devices, whether done by offline or online (life) then referred to as digital evidence. So, at this early stage, the more appropriate term used is Electronic Evidence (Electronic Evidence). • In the examination and analysis phase, digital evidence is more meaningful in the digital file object being analyzed by the investigator, whether the file is the result of imaging or individual files (text, document, audio, video, log or other forms of information other digital devices that are estimated to have valuable information). • Meanwhile, in the final stages, digital evidence is more meaningful as the analytical output obtained by investigators leading directly to the reconstruction of the case being investigated.
