Cellular Respiration is the set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place within the cells of organisms. This event converts biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then releases waste product. This process explains how nearly all cells in Eukaryotic organisms break down sugars for ATP production (energy). The equation for Cellular Respiration is C6H12O6+6O2= 6H2O+6CO2+36 ATP. Cellular Respiration is a catabolic reaction, which means large molecules are split into smaller ones in turn releasing energy to help with the process. Anaerobic Respiration is the process of producing cellular energy without oxygen. Aerobic respiration requires the breakdown of Oxygen (O2) to make ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate).…show more content…
The folds in the inner membrane are called the cristae. Aerobic respiration creates ATP through the process of Glycolysis, which is the splitting of sugars. Glycolysis has 3 processes, The Krebs Cycle (or Citric Acid Cycle), The Electron Transport chain, and The Link Reaction. Glycolysis is the breakdown of glucose by enzymes and is the first stage of cellular respiration. The Link Reaction is a major link between the metabolic pathways of glycolysis, and the krebs cycle. Link reactions in Eukaryotes takes place in the mitochondrial matrix, but in prokaryotes the reaction happens in the cytoplasm or plasma membrane. The link reaction converts pyruvate in to Acetyl- CoA to allow the krebs cycle to happen. The Krebs Cycle (or Citric Acid Cycle) is a repeating process of chemical reactions that happen in all anaerobic organisms to make energy through the oxidation of Acetyl-CoA, which comes from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that become carbon dioxide and chemical energy, in the creation of Guanosine Triphosphate (GTP). Guanosine Triphosphate is purine nucleoside triphosphate. The Krebs Cycle occurs in the matrix of the Mitochondria. Each molecule of Acetyl CoA leads to one turn of the kreb cycle. The Electron Transport Chain is a repeating process…show more content…
6 Redox Reaction is a chemical reaction that has to do with the transferring of electrons and then pairs the electron transfer of the protons (H+) across the membrane. This will then makes an electrochemical proton gradient that will power ATP synthesis. Molecular Oxygen is the final acceptor of electron in the Electron Transport Chain. The Electron Transport Chain occurs in the proteins of the inner membrane of the mitochondria. The Electron Transport Chain is used to take energy out of the Redox reaction from sunlight through oxidation of the sugars. The first step is The Link Reaction, the second step is The Krebs Cycle, and the last is the Electron Transport Chain. A respirometer is a instrument which is used to calculate respiration, where animals and plants interchange carbon dioxide and oxygen as a part of their metabolism. Respirometers measure types of gas volume changes and then provide data about the rate of cellular
